Meeting his dad, dealing with avery, putting his friends first, AND BEING THE COMEDIC RELIEF?? grayson was such a mood and i related to him a lot but i’m boring therefore he was a bit boring。 libby and nash did absolutely nothing wrong but for some reason they annoyed me a little i want to push skye in front of a bus as soon as Eve was introduced my blood was boiling bc you could just TELL she was sketchy。 OH WAIT ALSO。 DOES TOBY JUST STAY WITH BLAKE??? LIKE… does not sit right with me that they just left him there the lore was good though。 i really needed that。 。。。more

The big conclusion to the trilogy。 Nice ending to tie everything up。

Ella

Freaking loved it! I love the twists they took and how they found out more about themselves。 Thanks to the ending I really wish there were more!!!!

The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn BarnesOverall Rating: ★★★★★What did I like the best about this book? This book had everything that I loved from the first two and more。 My favourite part of the book was the ending, I, in all honesty, didn't see what she decided to do with the inheritance coming and the way she handled it all just made me fall in love with this world and it's characters all over again。 What stood out to me the most about the world inside this book?I really loved how we finally came to understand the real reason behind why Tobias Hawthorne chose to hand over the inheritance to Avery rather than his family。 The characters and the unravelling of his past in this book just gave a greater depth to the whole novel and where it was set for me。 Who were my favourite characters?I came to really love Avery in this novel。 I really liked the way that she was unravelling the puzzles and the way she was learning to think like a Hawthorne。 What was my favourite quote?(view spoiler)[Alisa kneaded her temples。 "I can fix this。""It's not yours to fix," I told her。"You have no idea what you're doing。""No。" I replied, staring her down。 "You have no idea what I'm doing。 There's a difference。" (hide spoiler)]If I could hear this same story from another person’s point of view, who would I choose?(view spoiler)[I would really like to hear this story from Vincent Blake's point of view。 Hearing about how he came up with his plan to get at Avery and the way in which things unfolded from his end when he met Eve and kidnapped Toby would have been very interesting! (hide spoiler)]Who would I recommend this book to?I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Knives Out or just a good mystery in general。I really hope this isn't the end to more books about the Hawthorne family! 。。。more

In short, better than the last book, but not as good as the first。 Solid ending to a good trilogy。 Not enough Jameson and Avery for my liking, but I’ll take what I can get。 Also, the family tree hurt my brain。 Still not sure I understand it fully but whatever。

Because of stupid chess game ? 2。 The ending was shit。 I said it。 Seriously? Ending a three book series with a fuxking chess game ? Tobias Hawthorne must have been laughing at how ridiculous this idea was。 We went from hidden rooms, halls, houses to a chess game ? REALLY? We got riddles, super complicated words with pun that I did not understand for the most part。 Yet I found this ending very bad。 Almost boring。 I was reading between the lines。 LITTERALY。 3。 Grayson was badly written。 And this isn’t only a critics thought because of this book but also because of of the previous book。 It’s like the author forgot how she originally created him。 Just name it Rayson because it wasn’t Grayson。 4。 Really Avery? I love you but there are some women’s wrongs that I will never support。 Like you giving away most of it all to charity。 Yes it’s good and I’d probably do that irl to。 BUT ITS A BOOK COULD YOU NOT DO SOMETHING CRAZIER ? Like maybe give away the money that were Hawthorne money to HAWTHORNE PEOPLE ? If I were one and you would have give away most of it to charity I would have come for you。 I’m mad because it’s so previsible and even my little sister could have predicted it。 She said she spent hours scrambling words and erasing them on her notebook。 Girl。 You don’t need hours to decided you will give away most of your fortune。 You write : “GIVE IT AWAY” and call it a day ? 5。 The whole Eve thing。 Please stop introducing characters that we know from page 1 they’re gonna be traitors or are villains。 Especially when you can smell it from miles away。 I think I’ll stop here。 I don’t have any words。 I want to sleep and create my own alternative ending where Grayson didn’t end up to be a ghost of book 1 himself, where Avery did something crazier with the money like IDK free her ‘father’? , where chess game didn’t exist in this alternative book version。 Imma sleep now。 PEACE OUT。 。。。more

Omg, I so want this game to be real! But about the book, I just love this series。 Even if sometimes the description with Grayson and Jameson are very much on the cheesy side。 But I love the idea and I love the way Jennifer Lynn Barnes keeps it moving and thrilling。 It is really hard to put this book down and I‘m sad that the trilogy is now over。

This book threw me! I love the characters and got more invested in several of them in this book。 The twists were unimaginable。 The ending was not the happily ever after I was hoping for, it was exactly what the book needed and fit the characters perfectly。 The chapters continue to be short and filled with riddles that make this a really quick read。 The characters really developed in this book and I love who they have become/are becoming。 Though the love interest, of the main character, isn't who This book threw me! Actual rating - 4。5 stars。 Due to having to wait most of the year to read this one, when I read books 1 and 2 within a couple of months of each other, I think that may have affected how I read book 3。 I remembered a lot but did forget some parts。 I also felt, because there was a lot to wrap up here, that some chapters were shorter than I'd have liked。 But I did still enjoy this very much, and I've loved the whole trilogy so much! tbh i feel like the reason i didn’t enjoy it that much is bc as the audience u aren’t really involved。 like if this was told differently it could prob be a suspense/thriller and maybe that’s j personal preference but i would’ve like that better。 like the author has never heard of show not tell i think。 there were a couple other things plot and character wise that bothered me but it’s whatever 😋

I was pretty excited to read this one, so that I could finish off this series。 It was ok, it tied things up and the ending was satisfying, but it didn't grab my attention like the first two did。 I was pretty excited to read this one, so that I could finish off this series。 It was ok, it tied things up and the ending was satisfying, but it didn't grab my attention like the first two did。 。。。more

This book was necessary to finish the trilogy, but it honestly felt like the author ran out of steam/puzzles/creativity when it came to this third book。 I wanted to love this one as much as I like the other two books, because I LOVED the other two and kept thinking about them long after I read it。 However, this one was just flat。 There wasn't any blood-pumping high action moments, super intense love/flirt scenes, and overall, the puzzles weren't exciting。 Maybe she set my standards too high or m This book was necessary to finish the trilogy, but it honestly felt like the author ran out of steam/puzzles/creativity when it came to this third book。 I wanted to love this one as much as I like the other two books, because I LOVED the other two and kept thinking about them long after I read it。 However, this one was just flat。 There wasn't any blood-pumping high action moments, super intense love/flirt scenes, and overall, the puzzles weren't exciting。 Maybe she set my standards too high or maybe she was out of ideas, but either way I just did not enjoy this third book as much as I expected or wanted to。 。。。more
